About the Author

Hello:
A few words from me, the Author of this Website.
Presumably, this is the newest Website dedicated to Tourist sites in Central Sri Lanka with particular attention to the Tea Industry. Within my knowledge and wisdom, I have religiously tried to cover innovations and everything else the Sri Lankan (Ceylon) Tea gardens endure and all those people who are connected, lived and died with its long history, the various traditions of ‘Estate Life’ and above all experiences of our forefathers in the tea plantations of Sri Lanka.
All these in the backdrop of a wider area which prospective tourists from around the world would like to hear about.
Every time you taste a Cup of Tea, most of you Tea Drinkers must be wondering from where and how the Green Tea or Black Tea must have come from and what makes it so soothing and enthralling your battered nerves. You may even think of making a trip to this wonderful island, where tea mixes with many other tourist attractions along with the welcome smiles typical only to Sri Lankans.
The site aims to focus on the two main varieties of tea, the Black Tea and Green Tea which are the most common types being consumed in the World of Tea Drinkers.
Born in 1944 on a Tea Plantation called Osborne Estate, in Ceylon and grew up practically among the tea bushes looking at the people who toiled in them. In 1964, I joined Lethenty Tea Estate Office to start my career as a trainee. I have spent over 35 years of my life in the tea plantations, passionately studying its cultivation, production, management and many other stages which go towards to make the ‘cup of tea’ you relish on. My life in tea plantations was interrupted during my two decade stint with a contract for a United States Air Force program in Oman, but by passion for Tea and Tea Gardens of Sri Lanka never faded from my heart.
My Family (KAMISS) background itself has so much to do with Tea industry. My father (A.H.) was a long serving plantation executive during the British colonial days, my eldest brother (M.Z.A.) a Factory Manager for over three decades in the Agrapatna planting district, my other elder brother (T.M.N.) was a famous Factory Manager who created Record Tea Prices in the Nuwara Eliya, Western and Uva regions until recently, and my youngest brother (M.H.) is presently Factory Manager of Somerset Tea Garden Nuwara Eliya, maintaining the highest tea prices in the Western High Grown region.
As the author, I trust my little venture will be very informative and entertaining at the same time. It would be my greatest pleasure to receive your comments and suggestions when the website is ready to receive them in due course.
Happy Tea Times!
Tuan B. Kamiss

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
For more than a decade PEDRO ESTATE near Nuwara Eliya was the most often visited tea estate with my family. I always enjoyed the breath-taking environment and the cool breeze which never failed to invigorate me, of course through the courtesy of my brother and his family.

As author of this Website, I have a very special place in my heart for this beautiful Tea Garden.
