Do you love Ceylon Tea - Perhaps Ceylon Tea Portal is the most informative and well researched Website pertaining to Ceylon Tea, whether Green or Black Tea.

Ceylon Tea Portal makes a genuine effort to answer your questions with all major events in a 2700-year old History of tea, how it came to be most popular beverage in the whole world, facts about Green tea, Black tea and their Health benefits. Perhaps, no other website could give a comprehensive account of what happens to a simple Tea plant grown in a Tea garden, the various stages it undergoes in a Tea Processing Center before hitting your Cup of Tea at home, office or a Tea party.

Tea is the cheapest and most consumed drink in the world, only next to water. The present generation seems unaware that Ceylon (Sri Lanka) Tea is the Best, Quality-wise, if you can find “Pure” Ceylon Tea anywhere without blending with teas from other countries.

So, how do you identify whether the packet of tea you buy contains Pure Ceylon Tea? It is simple:

‘CEYLON TEA LION LOGO’

In order to ensure consumers identify “Pure Ceylon Tea” in packs which indicate so, the Sri Lanka Tea Board has initiated a Lion Logo to appear on Ceylon Tea packs denoting the country of origin and quality of the product.

The Sri Lanka Tea Board owns the Logo, which has been registered in over 75 countries.

The Board has laid out certain conditions for the use of Lion Logo on Ceylon Tea brands packed in Sri Lanka:

• The logo can be used only on consumer packs, which contain 100% Pure Ceylon Tea

• The brands should be packed in Sri Lanka

• The brands, which use the Lion Logo, should conform to the quality standards set out by Sri Lanka Tea Board

Therefore, teas packed outside Sri Lanka cannot use this Logo, even if the packs contain the purest item.

Next time when you buy any brand claiming to be Pure Ceylon Tea, look for the Lion Logo on the pack to make sure you have the right product.

The Tea Gardens of Sri Lanka producing Ceylon Tea are some of the most enchantingly beautiful places in the world. It is here you see Green as Green can ever be and makes one wonder if he or she is in paradise on earth?

History of Ceylon Tea is indeed like a thriller. It had a modest beginning and passed through trial and error to become a major primary industry of the country.

According to records Tea seeds from China was first imported in the year 1824 and from Assam in 1839.

The British brought the entire island of Ceylon into their control in 1815 and within a decade established huge Coffee plantations throughout the central regions.

However, the days of Coffee in Sri Lanka were numbered, as within a few decades a Coffee leaf infestation struck a death blow to the industry, thus giving way to something altogether new to this country.

In 1875 the total acreage under Ceylon tea cultivation was only 1080 which grew up to about 575,000 acres in 1954.

The Ceylon Tea Portal will take you to a number of areas which you wouldn't have seen in most of the other websites on the subject.

It took several years to establish a very effective Manufacture and Marketing process for Ceylon Tea to become the Number One foreign exchange earner for the country.
